【MADE IN OUR SHOP】

Handheld prototypes to show how concept was ready-for-fabrication.

The Design Slam is a live design competition where three architects compete head-to-head live to produce the best design possible in a very limited 20 minutes. Only allowed a few prepared elements, we leveraged generative design and custom scripting to produce a grand scheme with lots of variation and detail. And brought home the winning trophy while holding our own against two much larger and more established design firms!

【ABOUT】

The design competition was to generate a concept for a temporary series of pavilions around a classic of French architecture: the Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans. Our concept involved a series of digitally-fabricated, generalitively designed towers that both referenced the perfect mathematical symmetry of the historic site and yet introduced a playful bounded randomness. The main central tower not only provides a viewing platform, it also collects energy via photovoltaic panels to drive a onsite WiFi-empowered AR experience for visitors to learn the rich history of these great buildings.
