Interactive LED Coffee Table - The Ripple
This table delightfully comes to life when you motion over the top of it!
Far from being a disco floor, an interactive LED table is normally subtle and constant. In the dark the table top faintly twinkles like the night sky. However, using a network of infrared sensors, the table can "see" what is above it and responds to motion and changes in ambient light.
This beautiful table stands on its own as a fine piece of furniture. The interactive lights within it are a wonderfully welcome added feature. Made of two tone sustainable wood, and finished with a durable water based varnish, this table is friendly to the environment as well as strikingly handsome. A striking wood lattice underneath, spanning the side waves, forms a nice shelf for storage.
The LEDs in their fully active state pull only 35 watts all together. That's less than most household bulbs! And most of the time this table sits just barely twinkling, and pulling very little electricity. The table has one single black wall cord and an easily accessible on/off switch on the underside.
This table is a large, 62" long by 31" wide by 18" high coffee table with a nice thick glass or plastic top. The rounded edges create a beautiful pattern, and are good for a smaller space, or children, as there are no sharp edges.
Using a network of 32 active and passive near-infrared optical sensors, it detects motion above the table and changes in ambient light. Made of fully analog circuits, the light patterns sweep outwards from your motion with perfect fades, ripples across a pool of 480 super-bright white LEDs. It works in full sunlight or total darkness. Without motion it calms down to a very slight twinkling, with lots of motion all sorts of complex emergent behavior begins to happen.
