Custom desks for a Small Office

We here at the World Headquarters for Because We Can, LLC, needed a pair of new desks.

Being in a very small office, we utilize all the space we can, as efficiently as we can. But we also make no compromises to aesthetics. We needed desks that would take up as little room as possible, yet be fully functional and incredibly cool. This design task we put on ourselves, and created these wall hanging desks..

We first made the back supports. Using a combination of Adobe Illustrator and our CAM software, we made these very organic shapes using 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood glued together to make a sturdy thick back.

The wall desks were then attached to these "backs".

We stained Jeffrey's desk with a lighter, more natural stain. Here you can see that the cubbies on the back are made of ribs, sandwiched together. You can also see the aluminum pins that hold them in place on the curves and the ends.

The surface of the desk easily lifts up and closes with a latch on the side.

When the desks are in their closed position, they take up hardly any room at all. The next phase is to have custom picture frames attached to this "underside" of the desks. This phase of the project is still in design.
